Chess is such a well-known board game that players have often become bored and decided to invent new games with the same original set-up. This makes it easier for new players to compete against established chess players as their 100s of years of books on openings do not help. There are often many of the variants of chess played between other games (just for fun) the most commonly seen is Exchange Chess
